| You Have Now Put My Mind
At Ease
Rav Yitzchak Zilbershtein shlita related the following story
that he heard first hand about a Jewish family that immigrated
to Israel from Iran. None of the children had a religious
upbringing, but one of the daughters adopted a religious
lifestyle. She was scrupulous with every detail of the
yiddishkeit that she practiced. When their mother passed away
there was no one to recite Kaddish on her behalf.
At the conclusion of the first year following her death, the
mother appeared to her religious daughter in a dream and told
her that “I have no rest here in the afterlife, the World of
Truth!” The daughter understood through various circumstances
that her mother could not find respite for her soul because
there was no one who would recite the Kaddish for her. She
immediately hired a young scholar from a nearby academy to
recite Kaddish and study Mishnayos on her mother’s behalf. (The
study of Mishnayos is especially appropriate to raise a soul to
greater spiritual levels in the next world since the Hebrew word
Mishna; Mem, Shin, Nun, Hai has the same letters as the word
Neshama; Nun, Shin, Mem, Hai.)
Thirty days following this, her mother appeared to her once
again in a dream and told her, “You have now put my mind at
ease.”
