The Lengthy Morning Service That Saved Ten Lives
A group of men who worked in the Twin Towers would gather daily
to recite the Morning prayers at a Minyan near the Towers. On
the morning of September 11, 2001, they had to wait longer than
usual for their tenth man. Finally, an older man they didn’t
know appeared and said that he had to say Kaddish and wanted to
lead services. He did so at a very slow pace that made the
others anxious about being late. Before he finished they heard
an explosion, and realized that they all should have been in the
building were it not for the stranger’s sluggish Shacharis. He
was gone before they could thank him, even before they could
learn who he was.
